Sand Falls through the Hourglass
Lines dance on the page,
Mind takes center-stage;
Thoughts, and I’m fumbling,
Caught, and I’m stumbling.
Curtain drawn, but it’s frayed,
Clock tocks, but it’s weighed;
Loose lips, but they’re mumbling,
Tall tower, but it’s crumbling.
Weathered hand guides the way,
Beating wings, a new day;
Knot in chest, and it’s unfurling,
Wild locks in fingers twirling.
Gentle whispers that I’m hearing,
Yellow flowers in a clearing;
Wet grass, and toes are curling,
Light reflects off silver sterling.
Wind chimes, notes on the breeze,
Fresh blooms on elderberry trees;
That night, a chance meeting,
Mere moments, and they’re fleeting.
Peeled paint, marks its aging,
Deep inside, a war is waging;
Smoky bar, a lack of seating,
This is home, though I’m retreating.
Hush, heart: still your beating!

𝔦 𝔣𝔦𝔫𝔞𝔩𝔩𝔶 𝔥𝔞𝔳𝔢 𝔞 𝔯𝔢𝔱𝔲𝔯𝔫 𝔞𝔡𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔰𝔰 (𝔫𝔬𝔱 𝔱𝔥𝔞𝔱 𝔦𝔱 𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔩𝔩𝔶 𝔪𝔞𝔱𝔱𝔢𝔯𝔰)

it only took me two whole years, but i think i'm finally ready to start anew
i thought i wanted you,
but what i wanted was the fantasy:
the picture perfect fairy tale,
a knight who came to rescue me.
& now i finally see the truth:
all the time without you &
the distance between us
broke it down to the reality ⤷ ゛ ˎˊ˗
every single moment that was
seared into my pretty brain
focused on the hallmarks
& disregarded all the stains.
ꜱᴏ, ɴᴏᴡ. ɪ’ʟʟ ᴛᴀᴋᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴅᴏᴡɴ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴇᴅᴇꜱᴛᴀʟ.
ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴇʀᴇ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴍᴇᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʟɪᴠᴇ ᴜᴘᴏɴ ᴀ ꜱʜᴇʟꜰ.
& sure, though i think you’re really cool,
it seems that now i’ve found my sense of self.
i thought i wanted you,
but i just wanted you to look at me;
for in just a single glance,
i saw all the love you had for me.
i wanted to look in the mirror,
to gaze upon myself with your eyes.
instead, i shattered the very glass
which did lead to our capsize.
i had my own special way
of pushing you away
because i wasn’t ready
to love myself that way.
& ɴᴏᴡ ɪᴛ’ꜱ ᴀʟʟ ᴡʀᴏɴɢ
ɴᴏᴡ, ʏᴏᴜ’ʀᴇ ʟᴏɴɢ ɢᴏɴᴇ
and i don’t go a single day
without feeling the sting of my past mistakes
i have to give my many thanks
because even though i feel shame,
i now look at myself in the loving way you used to do
i’ve placed myself upon the shelf, where i deserve to be
& for the very first time in my life, my priority is me.
