redefining patriotism

the left is protesting, the right is rejoicing. neither side sees eye to eye. families, torn apart across the nation. a celebration … turned sour.

there are people who see no point in celebrating today, who feel lost. perhaps, those people will be home, locking their doors & ignoring the goings-on of today.

there are people who are fueled with the rage of justice, out on the streets to protest–making their voices heard.

there are people who are revved up, cheering in this new age–trying to make america great again or whatever. america was never great, but it could be.

… though, not on this current trajectory …

we live in a land of illusions, delusions.
we only have two choices? left or right?
we have to sacrifice our morals? compromise?
we leave it up to politicians? corrupt madmen?
who lead a government meant to divide?
one nation? united under god?
that's right ... because you can only be under god, or against Him? there's no in between? ha. & when there's all these other religions to be seen?
"you have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion."
that's no choice. you told us we could choose!
you trample on our rights &
leave us broken, beaten down.
we are a country stuck in survival mode.
this country was built on deception.
no wonder there's talks of insurrection!
you are ready for change but you're the problem, too, if
you're catching up on your favorite shows while your neighbors are disappearing.
& if you're burying your head in the sand, while history is actively repeating.
they make one side sound crazy to the other, so we can't reach an understanding.
but it all starts with you.
no one else.
open your heart,
let love in.
find the compassion for your neighbor.
don't force your views on each other,
we listen, we don't judge.
"the world would be a better place if-"
if NOTHING. we can't wait on the world to change.
what will you change? what will you change today?
start small.
one foot in front of the other.

i reserve my right to dress in star-spangled glory & represent my love for the people: ALL PEOPLE. i love immigrants, i love minorities, i love the gays, i love women, i love men, i love the poor, i love the addicted, i love the disabled, i love the mentally ill, i love you. i care about people: i care about my people thriving, not simply surviving.

when i wear red, white, and blue, i do not stand for one side, while despising the other. i am here to bridge the gap. a huge leap, i know … but i am audacious, outrageous … and my energy is contagious.

“i love my country” means holding it accountable. say no to the status quo!

join me, as I explore what it means to be a true patriot. we are redefining patriotism.
